Heather Martin
Heather Martin first fell in love with dance in her childhood living room while her father played piano and her mother sang. Seeing this love her parents enrolled her in classes at the local recreation center. When Heather was 9 she graduated that program and began training more seriously at Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica, CA. There she had the honor of training under Rosemary Valaire (Royal Ballet), Yvonne Mounsey (NYCB), Patricia Neary, Colleen Neary, Thordal Christiansen, and more. Over her years there she was awarded merit scholarships and was afforded the opportunity to perform many once-in-a-lifetime rolls including Giselle, Sugar Plum, and various Balanchine pieces of choreography. She attended various summer intensives including the Jillana School, San Francisco Ballet, and Oregon Ballet Theatre.
After graduating high school Heather studied for a year at Oregon Ballet Theatre performing in their Nutcracker season. Heather later danced with Polaris Dance Theatre while she taught at various studios in Portland, Oregon. Since that time Heather has enjoyed other performing opportunities while also teaching in California, West Virginia, and now being on staff at Opus. One of her favorite things is to watch a concept in dance become internalized and applied so that it can blossom into the unique gift and style each dancer is crafting.
