Opus Performing Arts - History, Vision, and Teaching Philosophy
Opus Performing Art boasts some of the best teachers in the Bellingham area, including Artistic Director Brooke Evans and BRD co-founder Diane Williams. This video is an introduction to the faculty as they explain the core values and principles they apply to their teaching philosophy.
Opus Performing Arts was started by a small group of parents in the Bellingham area who wanted to provide a high quality dance experience based on a multidisciplinary curriculum in a learning environment that is both serious and fun. We believe that the high degree of discipline needed to progress as a performer must be taught, and that this discipline will serve the student well whether they pursue a career in performing arts or in any other field of endeavor.
At the core of our dance program is ballet. Basic ballet technique is a strong foundation for all dance, a solid technique which shapes a dancer in body and form and enables them to easily transition from one dance style to another, creating versatility. In addition to ballet, Opus offers classes in contemporary, jazz, tap, and hip hop
Opus’ dance program is led by classically trained ballet dancer Brooke Evans who is also a founding member of Bellingham Repertory Dance. She believes Opus is a special place where students have a unique opportunity to learn in an environment that stresses quality instruction. The primary focus is to build the strong foundation of technique needed for young dancers in the Bellingham community to grow and flourish.
For the serious dance student, Opus provides a well-rounded education in dance. The school provides performing opportunities throughout the year. Additionally, Opus hosts master teachers to conduct weekend workshops and guest choreographers to work with our dancers.
Opus also offers a number of drop in and open classes for adults, including ballet, tap, and hip hop
