Lainie Pennington
Lainie Pennington (she/hers) began her formal dance training in Portland, Oregon at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre under the direction of Damara Bennet and Anthony Jones. There she had the privilege to work alongside the professional company in productions such as George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker” and “Walpurgisnacht,” as well as perform classical repertoire including Paquita and Don Quixote. She then moved to NW Dance Project under the direction of Sarah Slipper to further her studies in contemporary dance as well as perform in their youth performance company, the Young Creatives. She is currently attending Western Washington University and pursuing a BFA in Dance with a minor in Arts Enterprises and Cultural Innovations. Most notably, she worked with Liz Gerring in both her 2020 and 2022 residencies and performed an original work “Horizon Redux” at Dance in Concert 2022.
A self-proclaimed “ballet nerd,” Lainie aims to give students a strong foundation in classical technique while fostering their curiosity, confidence, and joy for dance both in and out of the studio. She is delighted to be joining the amazing team at Opus!
