Lauren Gates
Lauren Gates began dancing when her parents enrolled her in ballet classes at Ketchikan Theatre Ballet in Ketchikan, Alaska at the age of seven. Her first year of dancing is all that it took, she discovered her love for dance. Her love for the craft has brought her to many wonderful and whimsical places in life. Time in New York City brought the opportunity to attend world renowned classes at the New York City Ballet and Broadway Dance Center. In 2011, Lauren was nominated to be the Rotary Exchange Student representing Ketchikan High School. She spent her junior year of high school in India. While there, she studied Bollywood, Kathak, and hip hop.
Lauren attended University of Alaska Anchorage where she majored in Fine Arts and minored in Dance. During her time at UAA, she studied under modern dance extraordinaire Brian Jefferey, the great body percussionists Katherine Kramer and Nicholas Young and attended The American College Dance Festival in Detroit, Michigan.
After graduation, Lauren then returned to Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, back to her roots, to teach in the very studio she grew up in. After spending two wonderful years teaching ballet and jazz at KTB, she decided to spread her wings, meet new people, see new places, and experience something new. Lauren is filled with joy to have joined the Opus family! She is excited to continue her learning, teaching, and dancing career.
