Opus is Moving!
Hello Opus Families!
As many of you are aware we have been weighing our options regarding staying at our current location on Holly Street. You may have noticed the "for lease" signs that went up at Opus back in March; our lease is up for renewal at the end of August and our landlord felt it was in his best interest to put up the signs while we negotiated a lease extension.
While these negotiations were ongoing we were actively looking for another space that would make it easier for us to grow (we need an additional studio!) while also addressing some of the shortcomings of the Holly building. We've located at least one good possibility.
However, in the short run we've come to the conclusion that it does not make sense to sign a new lease in the middle of the uncertainty created by the pandemic. While both our current and prospective landlords have expressed some interest in reduced rental amounts until we can fully reopen, rental expenses would still be very high for what would be essentially unused space - for an amount of time that is completely unknowable.
We feel very confident that once the Covid situation allows it we can be up and running in another (or possibly the same) space in 30-60 days (for those of you who weren't at Opus 6 years ago when we opened we completely built out the space in around 45 days). We fully intend to restart live classes as soon as we can safely do so.
In some sense there is a "silver lining" in that our current lease expiration allows us to keep our options open while not having to break our lease. As mentioned above, we have every intention of restarting live classes as soon as it is possible to do so safely, and we greatly appreciate the expressions of support and gratitude we've received from families during this difficult time. In the meantime we intend to provide those students who want it with the best possible online experience. We are also looking into the possibility of private classes in a temporary location.
As always please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
