Rachel Coats
Rachel Coats was raised in Miami, Florida where she received her primary ballet training from Tony Catanzaro and Marielena Mencia. In her high school years, she attended New World School of the Arts and spent summers training at School of American Ballet and Boston Ballet.
Rachel was a company dancer with Kansas City Ballet for 12 seasons and has performed professionally with several companies including Quixotic, Post:Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Owen/Cox Dance Theater, and Moving Arts Dance Festival. Throughout her career, Rachel has been featured in works by Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, Jose Limon, Twyla Tharp, Robert Dekkers, Andrea Schermoly, Jodie Gates, Adam Hougland, and Ma Cong among others. Some of her favorite roles include Desdemona in The Moor’s Pavane, the title role in Firebird, and Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker.
Rachel holds a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is passionate about bringing mental health awareness to the field of dance. She particularly enjoys talking with ballet dancers about the importance of self-compassion in dance.
